Vodec’s first-ever butter sculpting competition was held during “Come to the Fair Week” at our Central Iowa Development Center.

Consumers from Central Iowa had the opportunity to create tie-dye bandanas as part of the week’s festivities.

Although COVID-19 concerns stopped the 2020 Iowa State Fair from happening in person this year, it didn’t stop Vodec consumers from celebrating in August.

A week-long “Come to the Fair” celebration was held Aug. 17-21 at Vodec’s Central Iowa Development Center in Urbandale. Consumers were immersed in fair activities all week long, including tie-dye art, bingo, ring toss, balloon animals, face painting and fake tattoos, a penny toss, an egg and spoon race, a butter sculpting competition and more.

The festivities even included a photo booth and traditional “fair food” – corn dogs, funnel cake, popcorn and Italian ices.

“Vodec staff go above and beyond to make sure our consumers have amazing experiences while attending our day services,” said Sheila Stoneburner, Vodec’s Central Iowa services operations director. Staff members meet with consumers monthly to discuss potential activities they’re interested in for the coming month.

“I am so proud of our day services program and staff for making sure consumer care is top priority and that we’re expanding their horizons by creating opportunities for them to experience new things,” Stoneburner said.
